Barron Canyon Guided Day Trip

The Barron Canyon is arguably the most iconic canoe route in Algonquin Provincial Park. It is truly amazing with its jagged and colourful rock cliffs climbing 100m above the river. A guided canoe trip is the perfect way to learn all about canoeing, experience the rich history of this area and bask in the beauty of nature. It is a sight and experience that you will not forget.
Your adventure begins and ends at the Squirrel Rapids parking lot on the Barron River. There is one short portage of 450m where you can try carrying a canoe on your shoulders if you want to! After the portage you will
continue 3km and soon be paddling through the towering rock walls of the Barron Canyon. Take your
time to soak in the stunning scenery, go for a swim and enjoy a picnic lunch along the shore. To
return, you will reverse course and paddle downstream. Along the way your guide will teach you
about basic canoeing skills, the history of Algonquin Park, and the flora/fauna encountered during the
trip.

What's Included

What to Bring
- Small backpack
- Sun protection: hat, sunglasses & sunscreen
- Water (2L per person)
- Rain gear (proper jacket & we suggest pants in colder months)
- Secure footwear for walking that can get wet, no flip flops or bare feet (old running shoes work well)
- Weather appropriate clothing- May, June, Sept & Oct bring warm clothes
- Insect repellent, bug jacket, head net (optional but highly recommended in May/June)
- Camera (optional)
- Swimsuit & towel (optional)
- Algonquin Provincial Park Vehicle Permit (https://reservations.ontarioparks.com/)
- Gratuities for your guide (optional but encouraged if you enjoyed your trip)
- A positive attitude and paddling muscles!
Additional Information
- 2 People $249+tax per person, 3 People $209+tax per person, 4 People $179+tax per person, 5+ People $149+tax per person, Children 12 and under $109+tax per child.
- Tours begin at 10:00am and finish between 3:00pm and 5:00pm depending on the groups speed.
- Tours meet at Squirrel Rapids Access Point just past the 20 kilometre marker along the Sand Lake Gate access road. Please look for our red Algonquin Bound truck in the parking lot.
- This trip is suitable for everyone, no experience is required but participants must be able to paddle for 4+ hours, walk rocky trails and get in/out of a canoe comfortably.
- Your guide will wait up to 1 hour before leaving. There will be no refund for arriving late or missing a scheduled trip.
- Trips run rain or shine. Only lightning may delay or cancel a trip. Refunds/credits will be issued if a trip is canceled because of lightning.
- Personal Floatation Devices are provided and MUST be worn at all times.
- Participants will need to purchase a Daily Vehicle Permit at https://reservations.ontarioparks.com/ or at the park office upon arrival. If possible, it is best to purchase it online in advance to avoid lines at the office or passes being sold out.
- Cancellations must be made 7 days or more before the start of your trip to result in no charges. Less than 7 days notice results in full charges. If you can’t join us for your original dates and want to rebook, we will credit your trip and do our best to find another date within the same year but cannot guarantee rebooking.
